MADISON (WKOW) -- Wisconsin lawmakers are standing firm with their political party after nearly a month of the government shutdown.

The shutdown is affecting people across the country, especially for the 42 million people on Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) food assistance benefits, which are set to expire on Nov. 1.

Lawmakers have failed to pass two competing funding proposals to reopen the government.

Senator Tammy Baldwin (D-WI) is not backing down on the Democratic-led bill she is trying to pass through Congress, which protects Affordable Care Act (ACA) tax credits for people who need help finding affordable health care.

She blames President Donald Trump for not allowing SNAP funding to continue throughout the shutdown.
