MADISON (WKOW) — One month after the closure of Madison’s Dairy Drive encampment, questions persist about the fate of the former residents.
WKOW visited the site to see what has become of the camp and the people who once lived there. All of the people who lived at Dairy Drive and many of the huts are gone.
Brenda Konkel, executive director of Madison Street Medicine, said she knows firsthand that those who called Dairy Drive home are struggling with more than just housing.
Twenty-nine people lived at Dairy Drive. Of those 29, Konkel said 12 have found housing, but two of those 12 have already been evicted. The biggest challenge is finding landlords willing to rent to them, Konkel said.
Some former residents have sought mental health services, while others have had contact with law enfo
