ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. (WFLA) — A 2-year-old who wandered into the street in a Pinellas County neighborhood Wednesday afternoon was hit and killed by a pickup truck, the Florida Highway Patrol said.
The incident happened just before 4 p.m. on 49th Avenue North, west of 80th Street North, according to the Florida Highway Patrol.
Troopers said the 2-year-old lived at a nearby residence, and the child's parents were unaware the toddler had wandered outside.
The driver of a Ford F450 pickup truck was heading eastbound on 49th Avenue North when the child walked in front of his vehicle, according to authorities. The pickup driver was identified as a 34-year-old man from Valrico.
Officials said the 2-year-old died at the scene.
