Snow is possible high in the Western North Carolina mountains Thursday morning as a cold front pushes through our area.

Cold air will surge in behind the rain early Thursday morning, which means a few snowflakes could make an appearance — especially above 4,500 feet in the Great Smoky Mountains.

The cold rain we’re seeing now will meet that plunging air mass, creating the right setup for a brief burst of light snow in the higher elevations. It won’t amount to much — maybe a dusting to an inch in the highest ridges — but it’s a clear sign that the seasons are changing fast.
