A 50-year-old man has been charged with murder over an alleged hit-and-run that killed a former police officer on the New South Wales North Coast.

Dion Anthony Craig was arrested in South Grafton on Wednesday after he was discovered driving a vehicle linked to the death of the 55 year-old woman .

He was charged with murder and failure to disclose details of driver or passenger as the owner of a vehicle.

Mr Craig was refused bail during an online hearing at the Local Court Bail Division today.

He is expected to face Grafton Local Court in January.

Emergency services were called to the showground at Ulmarra at 4pm on October 28 after reports a woman had been struck by a vehicle.
