BIRMINGHAM, Ala. (WIAT) -- One person was injured in an officer-involved shooting that occurred Wednesday evening in Birmingham, according to the Birmingham Police Department.

According to the BPD, East Precinct officers were dispatched to the 600 block of Brunson Avenue just after 5 p.m. due to a report of an altercation involving an individual who was behaving violently.

After officers arrived at the scene, shots were fired. One person was struck and transported to UAB Hospital for treatment. The BPD said that no officers were injured.

The investigation will be taken over by the Alabama Law Enforcement Agency's State Bureau of Investigation.
