For the first time in six years, US President Donald Trump and his Chinese counterpart Xi Jinping came face-to-face on Thursday on the sidelines of the APEC Summit in South Korea, in a high-stakes meeting aimed at easing months of trade tensions and restoring stability between the world’s two largest economies.
“We know each other very well, we have a great relationship. Good to see him again. We could sign a trade deal today,” Trump told reporters as he and Xi posed for the cameras, moments after the two Presidents shook hands.
As the meeting began, Trump said, "We are going to have a very successful meeting, there is no doubt. He (Xi) is a very tough negotiator. He is a great leader of a great country. We are going to have a great relationship for a very long time."
