Former Canberra childcare director Emma Morton has sobbed as she was jailed for three years by the ACT Supreme Court today for stealing more than $300,000 from the centre where she worked.

Morton, 51, pleaded guilty to three rolled-up charges, which included transferring money to accounts she controlled, and using the centre's card to buy clothes and cosmetics as if it were her own money.

Her sentence will be suspended after three months, and she will be required to do 200 hours of community service.

The offences happened between 2020 and 2021, with a total of just over $300,000.

Three methods of fraud

Evidence presented to the court showed Morton used three methods in her offending.
