Every October, I cue up the Halloween playlist featuring spooky-season songs such as Talking Heads’ “Psycho Killer,” Roky Erickson’s “I Walked with a Zombie” and Alice Cooper’s “Welcome to My Nightmare.” The classics never get old, but I also enjoy seeing what our own Capital Region musicians conjure up when the air turns crisper and the vibe gets weird.
Many of the area’s spookiest songs have appeared on “Do the Fright Thing,” a Halloween compilation series from Super Dark Collective. Curated by Shane Sanchez, the project has released 10 volumes since 2008, bringing together the region’s underground bands for a dose of eerie creativity.
