What Nashville is to country music and Chicago is to blues, New York’s Capital Region is to folk music.

Jackie Alper was an early pioneer in the development of our region as a folk hotbed. On Saturday, 8th Step at Proctors in Schenectady will present nine movers and shakers on the current folk scene to honor this seminal figure, whose efforts precipitated our region becoming a beacon for folk music long before the movement exploded in Greenwich Village and Harvard Square in the early 1960s.
