LAKE LURE, N.C. (FOX Carolina) - The Flowering Bridge organization in Lake Lure said that a FEMA contractor found a piece of a beloved memorial while cleaning the area.

The organization reports that Leyon Kerklin, while working on cleaning the lake bed, noticed a dog collar in the sediment. A closer inspection revealed a section of the Rainbow Bridge covered in dog collars.

The Rainbow Bridge was a project meant to allow grieving pet owners to remember their beloved animals as they placed collars on the bridge in their pet’s memory.

Kerklin’s wife, Evelin, reached out to the Flowering Bridge organization and helped return 238 collars.

A section was added to the Lake Lure Flowering Bridge website where photos of the collars and tags cataloged so far have been posted.
