Sports-crazy Ohio needs to change state law on “prop betting” to maintain faith in the integrity of the underlying athletic competition. It’s getting to be a monotonous issue for The Blade Editorial Board as we’ve continuously advocated elimination of bets on individual athletes’ performance.

For the uninitiated, “proposition bets” are placed on specific metrics usually associated with a particular player, such as balls or strikes in baseball, points or rebounds in basketball, and yards or tackles in football. Because one player determines the outcome of the bet, prop bets open the door to real and imagined corruption.
