Security agencies in Manipur have arrested a woman for allegedly luring youths through mobile phones to join insurgent groups, particularly the banned People’s Liberation Army (PLA), the armed wing of the Revolutionary People’s Front (RPF).

The woman has been identified as Ningthoujam Anita Devi alias Rashida (44), a resident of Sairemkhul Maning Leikai in Imphal West district.

“The woman has been recruiting youths into insurgent groups. The intelligence team tracked her and arrested her from her residence,” said an official.

According to a police report, a preliminary investigation revealed her involvement in recruiting a girl from Jiribam district into the RPF/PLA. A mobile phone and an Aadhaar card were seized from her possession.
