US President Donald Trump and Chinese President Xi Jinping met on Thursday in Busan, South Korea, marking their first in-person talks in several years.

The two leaders met at a South Korean air base for discussions on a possible trade war truce between the world’s two largest economies.

The meeting took place on the sidelines of the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) Summit, amid global attention on the future of US-China relations.

As the talks began, Trump greeted Xi with optimism, saying he expected “a very successful meeting."

“We have a great relationship. Xi is a tough negotiator. We will be having some discussions, and we agree on a lot of things and will agree on more now. It’s an honour to have you," Trump said as he shook hands with Xi.
