TROY – The Troy Athens Red Hawks saw their season come to an end with a 2-0 loss to the Ann Arbor Huron River Rats in Wednesday night’s Division 1 semifinal.
The game was a defensive struggle for the entire first half. Players were under constant pressure as both teams were fast to close out anyone with the ball, swarming the ballhandler, then clogging up any passing lanes. Even in transition, the defenses were quick to recover, and what looked to be promising attacks rarely even generated a shot, let alone one on goal as the teams combined for just three shots on frame in the first half.
The Red Hawks had the best chance prior to intermission, forcing a diving save from River Rats goalie Matthew Pletcher with time winding down in the half.
