Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Thursday said that the Centre is making efforts to get UNESCO heritage status for the Chhath festival, one of Bihar’s most revered cultural celebrations.
Addressing an election rally in Muzaffarpur, Modi launched a scathing attack on the Congress and the Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD), accusing them of insulting ‘Chhathi Maiyya’—the deity worshipped during the festival— “for the sake of votes.”
“For the Congress-RJD leaders, Chhath Puja is just a drama. The people of Bihar will never forget this insult to their faith,” the Prime Minister said.
Modi described the RJD’s rule in Bihar as an era of “katta, kurta, katuta, kusashan, and corruption,” alleging that these five words summed up the party’s governance record during what he called ‘jungle raj.’
