Mumbai: A new nationwide study by Metropolis Healthcare Limited has revealed that 46.5 per cent of Indians tested show Vitamin D deficiency, while another 26 per cent have insufficient levels, underscoring widespread inadequacy across the country. The findings are based on the analysis of over 22 lakh test results collected between 2019 and January 2025.

The study shows South India recorded the highest deficiency (51.6 per cent), with Kerala, Puducherry, and Tamil Nadu each crossing the 50 per cent mark. Central India followed at 48.1 per cent, North India at 44.9 per cent, and West India, including Maharashtra, fared slightly better at 42.9 per cent. The Northeast (36.9 per cent) reported the lowest deficiency, possibly due to outdoor lifestyles and diverse diets.
