Five new suspects have been arrested in connection with the louvre robbery in Paris, in which thieves stole crown jewels worth an estimated $157 million, French media have reported.
“We had him in our sights,” Laure Beccuau said of the main suspect, adding that none of the stolen loot had been found.
These arrests follow the two arrests made on Saturday October 25. One of the men who was arrested was detained at Charles de Gaulle Airport in Paris on Saturday as he attempted to board a flight to Algeria.
Both suspects arrested at the weekend were reportedly from Seine-Saint-Denis, in the north of Paris.
The pair are alleged to be part of a four-man gang that stormed the iconic Louvre Museum on October 18, making off with a haul of priceless jewels.
