The AFRICANISM Gala is seen by some as the Met Gala of Pittsburgh. That assertion isn’t far off when considering the New York City gala’s recognition this year of Black style.

For those behind the AFRICANISM Gala, a fashion show and cultural affair celebrating the beauty and diversity of African and global Black heritage, that celebration is a daily pursuit.

Now in its third iteration, the fundraiser for nonprofit FashionAFRICANA’s AFRICANA Initiative is themed as a love letter to Black women, with a blend of fashion, music, film and dance. The AFRICANA Initiative is dedicated to enriching arts and cultural education for middle and high school students.
