A major MoU signed at India Maritime 2025 in Mumbai sets the stage for developing National Waterways–5 and 64 in Odisha.

The Inland Waterways Authority of India (IWAI), Government of Odisha, Paradip Port Authority (PPA), and Mahanadi Coalfields Limited (MCL) joined forces to operationalise the riverine corridors.

The ₹12,200 crore project will enable efficient coal and bulk cargo movement from Talcher coalfields to Paradip and Dhamra ports. Inland waterways will serve as the backbone of this transformation, reducing dependence on road and rail networks. The initiative aims to cut logistics costs and support eco-friendly transport.
