The federal government shutdown is putting SNAP and WIC funding at risk for tens of thousands of people in the SouthCoast.

According to the Greater Boston Food Bank, 46% of people in Bristol County are already food insecure.

Without SNAP funding, low-income families may need to visit food pantries.

There is an extensive network of food pantries in the SouthCoast area.

Unless the federal government shutdown is resolved soon, more than 81,000 people on the SouthCoast could be at risk of going hungry.

With the shutdown nearly a month old, the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program will run out of money on Nov. 1, potentially leaving tens of millions of people with no money to buy groceries.
