OSF HealthCare Children’s Hospital of Illinois has become the first facility in Central Illinois to use the Cochlear Nucleus Nexa System, described as the world’s first “smart” cochlear implant system.
Dr. John Greinwald Jr., an otolaryngologist at OSF Children’s Hospital, recently performed the region's initial implants using this new technology. According to the hospital, this advancement allows local children to access cutting-edge hearing care ahead of other hospitals in the area.
The Cochlear Nucleus Nexa System offers several technological improvements, including upgradable firmware and internal rewritable memory. These features allow patients to receive software updates and future enhancements
