Darius Rucker has enjoyed tremendous success as a musician, first as lead singer of Hootie and the Blowfish, then as a solo country artist.

But he still doesn’t think being a musician is the best choice for his three children — Carolyn, 30, Daniella, 24, and Jack, 21.

In an appearance on Taste of Country Nights , Rucker was asked how his kids were doing.

“Awesome. They’re awesome,” said Rucker, 59. “My two youngest all of a sudden want to be musicians, which I am so against that.”

The reason? “Because it’s such a hard business,” he said. “Even if you have a little bit of success, you’re chasing that forever. ... I wanted them to be doctors and lawyers and such, but, you know, we’ll see.”
