As Delhi continues to choke under a thick layer of smog, doctors are warning that the sudden change in weather may trigger a wave of seasonal illnesses.

The weather can be unpredictable, especially around Diwali. Health experts say the ongoing weather fluctuations lead to a rise in respiratory and sinus-related diseases.

“When the weather shifts, especially with drops in temperature or humidity, sinus membranes can become irritated or inflamed,” said consultant orthopaedic Dr Prathik Hegde in a statement to Only My Health.

Children, the elderly, and those with asthma, bronchitis, or heart conditions are particularly at risk. Even healthy adults are reporting eye irritation, headaches, and breathing discomfort as Delhi's AQI remains in the ‘severe’ category.
