Congratulations to fantasy football managers for making it through Week 8's "bye-mageddon" – and an even bigger congratulations who made it through the week with a win.
Entering Week 9, there are still four teams on a bye. A couple of them – the Tampa Bay Buccaneers and Philadelphia Eagles – have some top fantasy contributors that will find themselves on the bench this week.
With bye weeks and some significant injuries to deal with at the wide receiver position, it can be difficult to make decisions on which depth options are worth starting in Week 9 fantasy football matchups. The good news: several injured quarterbacks are returning this week, which could elevate the ceiling of a few wideouts.
USA TODAY Sports has compiled a list of five wide receivers worth closer consideration: three that could be options to start and two to keep on the bench this week.
Here's who those receivers are:
Fantasy football start 'em: Week 9 WRs
Brian Thomas Jr., Jacksonville Jaguars (@ Las Vegas Raiders)
Thomas' second season in the NFL has been a disappointment from a fantasy football standpoint so far. A year after he led all rookies with 1,282 receiving yards and 10 touchdowns, Thomas is on pace for 886 yards and has one touchdown so far.
If there was ever a week for a return to form for Thomas, it's in Week 9 against the Raiders. Las Vegas has struggled to limit receivers this season, having allowed the fourth-most fantasy points to the position. Receivers that split out wide rather than play in the slot have been particularly troublesome as well for these Raiders, and Thomas has taken most of his snaps on the outside.
Marvin Harrison Jr., Arizona Cardinals (@ Dallas Cowboys)
The Cowboys' defense has been picked apart by opponents' passing offenses all season. Dallas is allowing the highest EPA on dropbacks (0.256) and the second-highest success rate (52.8%) this season. Not coincidentally, the Cowboys have also allowed the most fantasy points and touchdowns to wide receivers.
Harrison is not only getting a matchup with the Cowboys, but he's also expected to be catching passes from his starting quarterback again. Kyler Murray is expected to return in Week 9 after missing two games before the Cardinals' Week 8 bye with a foot injury.
Wan'Dale Robinson, New York Giants (vs. San Francisco 49ers)
The 49ers have allowed the seventh-most receptions and eighth-most receiving yards to receivers of any team this year. On top of that, rookie nickel back Upton Stout has graded out as one of the worst coverage corners in the NFL, per PFF.
Robinson, who had an underwhelming Week 8 after a strong couple of weeks, plays 75% of his snaps from the slot and will face off with Stout. The Giants' fourth-year receiver is also their lead receiver in Malik Nabers' absence. With running back Cam Skattebo also out for the season, Robinson might get even more looks – and be more productive with those targets – in Week 9.
Fantasy football sit 'em: Week 9 WRs
Nico Collins, Houston Texans (vs. Denver Broncos)
Collins suffered a concussion last week and still isn't guaranteed to return to action in Week 9. He was still limited in practice on Oct. 29.
Even if Collins makes it back to the field, he's facing one of the worst possible matchups in his return. The Broncos have allowed the second-fewest fantasy points to wide receivers in 2025. Given that Collins was still limited in practice with his concussion as late as Oct. 29, there's no guarantee he'll be 100% by Nov. 2. With that being the case, and such a tough matchup, Collins is a safe bet to keep on the bench for one more week.
Stefon Diggs, New England Patriots (vs. Atlanta Falcons)
No team has allowed fewer yards to wide receivers this season than the Falcons. Atlanta has also allowed the fewest receptions to wideouts through eight weeks.
Diggs hasn't had 70 or more yards in any of the three games since his 146-yard outburst against the Buffalo Bills, his former team, in Week 5. He's tallied only three receptions in two of those previous three games and didn't record more than 30 yards in either of them. As Patriots third-year receiver Kayshon Boutte continues to produce downfield, the youngster may continue to out-target the veteran Diggs, as he has twice in the last three games.
This matchup and Diggs' recent downturn in production don't bode well for the 11-year veteran for Week 9 fantasy purposes.
