JEFFERSON COUNTY, Ala. (WIAT) -- For the first time, the mother of two people hit by an off-duty Jefferson County Sheriff's Office deputy who was allegedly under the influence of alcohol is speaking out.
This crash happened Oct. 8 in Center Point. According to the Alabama Law Enforcement Agency, an off-duty Jefferson County Sheriff's Office deputy ran a red light and hit a car.
That car was driven by 22-year-old Kayla Williams. Her 15-year-old brother Nicholas Williams was in the back seat.
Last week, charges were announced against the deputy. Court documents show at the time of the crash she was under the influence of alcohol.
