KNOXVILLE, Tenn — Governor Bill Lee announced Thursday morning that the state is launching a website to help connect Tennesseans with resources and opportunities to serve during the federal government shutdown.
Starting Nov. 1, people who qualify for the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program are expected to lose those benefits. The governor's office said the state is unable to use state dollars to provide the benefits because states do not have a way to load benefits onto the SNAP benefit cards.
Louisiana, New Mexico, Vermont, New York and Nevada have all announced ways to provide funds to those who are losing their benefits.
New Mexico Gov. Michelle Lujan Grisham announced Wednesday that her state will provide $30 million in emergency food assistance to residents through EBT cards
