Maryland Gov. Wes Moore is is set to announce a plan to address potential disruptions in Supplemental Assistance Nutrition Program benefits due to the federal government shutdown.
Moore will hold a press conference Thursday morning at the Anne Arundel County Food Bank regarding SNAP benefits. More than 680,000 Marylanders – including 262,000 children – rely on SNAP, according to the Maryland Attorney General’s Office.
On Oct. 10, the U.S. Department of Agriculture sent a letter to state SNAP agencies informing them that if the government shutdown continues, there will not be funding to pay full November SNAP benefits. Maryland is among 23 states suing the USDA, claiming the unlawful suspension of the benefits.
