ROCHESTER, N.Y. (WROC) — After 50 years of business, the owners of the Avenue Pub announced they are closing its doors.

The announcement was made on Wednesday on the pub's social media pages. The owners say the closure is due to rising costs, insurance, utilities, the state of Monroe Avenue, and the decline in business.

The pub first opened in 1975 by Gary Sweet and remained open to honor his legacy. The pub is described as being a staple of the Rochester LGBTQ+ community. It celebrated its 50th anniversary last month.

The Avenue Pub will close on Monday, November 3. The owners say anyone who wishes to continue the business may contact them.
