Following the expiry of the Thursday noon deadline given to 143 government employees in West Bengal to accept their appointment letters as Booth Level Workers (BLOs) ahead of the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls, the Election Commission has sought a report from the districts to which the prospective BLOs belong.
The EC has said those who do not accept their appointment as BLOs should be suspended from their jobs. Most of the 143 are government school teachers.
BLOs are crucial for the SIR process, as they are tasked with going door to door and distributing enumeration forms to collect information on voters.
