The US government has granted India a six-month reprieve from sanctions on Iran's Chabahar port. Foreign Ministry spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal announced this at the weekly press conference.

Previously, the US had announced that it would impose penalties on companies involved in operating, funding, or otherwise working at the port, effective September 29th. However, this reprieve was later extended to October 27th, which expired three days ago. Now, it has been extended for six months.

India leased Chabahar for 10 years in 2024. Under this agreement, India will invest $120 million and provide a $250 million line of credit.

Chabahar port helps India trade directly with Afghanistan, Central Asia, Russia, and Europe.
