During a 2020 appearance on Open Source with Lew Goldstein , GOP gubernatorial Jack Ciattarelli called New Jersey’s planned $15 minimum wage “dangerous.” He argued that wage increases should come from market conditions rather than legislation, saying the best way to raise pay is through a “tight labor market because the economy is doing so well.”

“I’m not someone that feels that you necessarily lift, you help the middle class get ahead or lift the working poor by raising the minimum wage legislatively to $15 an hour,” Ciattarelli said.
