A 79-year-old man has died after being attacked near a bus stop near Leeds .

Officers have launched a murder investigation after the pensioner died in hospital on Wednesday (October 29).

Emergency services descended on Aberford Road, in Garforth , at 6.35pm following reports the pensioner had been assaulted in the street.

He was rushed to hospital, where he tragically died despite the best efforts of medics.

West Yorkshire Police has since arrested an 18-year-old man on suspicion of murder, Yorkshire Live reports .

He remains in custody for questioning today (Thursday).

Detectives from West Yorkshire Police's homicide and major enquiry team are now carrying out extensive enquiries, the force says.
