Kolkata Knight Riders have appointed Abhishek Nayar as their head coach for the IPL 2026 season.

Nayar replaces Chandrakant Pandit, who led KKR from 2023 to 2025 and guided the team to a title win in 2024. However, after a disappointing eighth-place finish in IPL 2025, the franchise decided to part ways with Pandit. Nayar had joined the setup midway through the last season but couldn’t reverse the team’s fortunes.

The 42-year-old brings extensive coaching experience to the role. He served as assistant coach for the Indian national team for a year before his contract ended in April. Nayar has also been part of KKR’s backroom staff from 2018 to 2024, working closely with top players like Rohit Sharma and Shreyas Iyer.
