Headstones at Watertown's Old Buying Ground Restored

WATERTOWN — More than a dozen headstones at the Old Burying Ground in Watertown were recently restored by Monument Conservation Collaborative, LLC.

Martin Johson met with members of the Trumbull-Porter Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution (DAR) in July to identify headstones in need of repair.

One of the repaired headstones is for Rev. Ebenezer O. Beers. His full tombstone reads: "Died in Middlebury, Feb 10, 1847, Rev. Ebenezer O. Beers, of the N.Y. Conference, of the M.E Church. Ages 28 years, 7 months, and 16 days. He asked not a stone to be sculptured in verse. He asked not that fame should his merits rehearse. But he asked as a boon when he gave up the ghost, that his brethren might know that he died at his post."
