RCMP in Port Saunders are trying to identify the driver of a car that refused to stop for police and ended up in a ditch Tuesday evening.

Officers noticed the grey Buick heading south on the Northern Peninsula Highway between Bellburns and Daniel’s Harbour, and tried to pull it over.

Instead of stopping, the car sped away and was found a short time later in a ditch near the entrance to Daniel’s Harbour.

Police were unable to locate the driver, who may have fled the scene on foot and may have been picked up by another vehicle. They are hoping to hear from anyone who may have picked up a hitchhiker near Daniel’s Harbour.

The car was seized.
