Ben Austin, a 17-year-old cricketer from Melbourne, tragically died after a ball struck his neck during a training session at Walley Tew Reserve in Ferntree Gully.

The incident occurred on Tuesday evening while he was preparing for a T20 match against Eildon Park.

Although Ben wore a helmet, the ball hit the vulnerable area between his head and neck. Immediately after the impact, medical personnel rushed to the scene and administered first aid. They then transferred him to Monash Medical Centre, where doctors placed him on life support. Despite their efforts, Ben could not survive the injury.
