At a Lafayette City Council meeting Tuesday, the members voted 5-2 to approve a resolution endorsing Ballot Issue 2C, which, if passed by voters during next week’s election, would fund improvements to three city projects: improvements to the Bob L. Burger Recreation Center, a new civic center to replace the existing city hall, and improvements the City Service Center.
The ballot measure asks voters to authorize a $74 million increase to the city’s debt through a general obligation bond, a cost that, city staff says, would be funded by a property tax increase over two decades. General obligation bonds can be issued by state and local governments and are backed by their taxing authority, according to the Colorado Department of the Treasury.
