Canadian Pacific acquired Kansas City Southern in the spring of 2023 for US$31 billion, forming CPKC, the first railway connecting Canada, the U.S. and Mexico.

Canadian Pacific Kansas City Ltd. reported big productivity gains in its latest quarter, driven by the railway’s integration of its Canadian and U.S. operations.

“We saw the (Canadian Pacific) legacy network operate at record productivity and car velocity levels,” Mark Redd, CPKC’s executive vice president and chief operating officer, told analysts on a Wednesday earnings call.

Redd says the combination of the Canada-U.S. network, which also extends to Mexico, is creating further efficiencies for operations, with the U.S. portion hitting record throughput levels.
