Johnstone schools will likely close or be amalgamated as Renfrewshire Council sets out its preferred options for the future of education in the town. ‌

A paper — to be considered by councillors at today’s children services and education policy board — reveals the local authority believes a “reduced number of establishments” is the best way forward. ‌

Crucially, there is no commitment to build a new school for Thorn Primary — a manifesto commitment from the SNP. ‌

The document sets out a series of options to address capacity issues at schools and the poor condition of buildings at Thorn, St Margaret’s and Auchenlodment primary schools.
