After star running back Christian McCaffrey was limited to four games last season due to Achilles and knee injuries, the San Francisco 49ers have been looking to manage his workload and lower his risk of injury. To that end, they traded a 2026 sixth-round draft pick to the Washington Commanders for Brian Robinson Jr. in late August.

As it turned out, they could've gotten a very serviceable backup for McCaffrey without having to part with a future draft pick.

Running back Cam Skattebo, a fourth-round draft pick in April out of Arizona State University, emerged as a diamond in the rough for the New York Giants before a severe ankle injury this past Sunday ended his season. He ran for 410 yards and five touchdowns while adding 24 catches, 207 receiving yards and two receiving touchdowns
