GOP pollster Frank Luntz got a scalding scolding from CNN analyst and Democratic strategist Karen Finney after a "late-night brawl" over the government shutdown, Mediaite reports.
During the Laura Coates Live broadcast, the host played Senate Majority Leader John Thune's (R-SD) "loud rebuke" of Democrats on the Senate floor Wednesday night for Finney, Luntz and CNN GOP analyst Brad Todd.
During that rebuke, Thune objected to a request by Senator Ben Ray Luján (D-NM) to pass a standalone bill to fund benefits for the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) and the Women, Infants and Children (WIC) program by unanimous consent, and later admitted he "channeled a little bit of anger there."
That anger transferred to Luntz, who was "incensed," Mediaite reports, when Finney derided Thune.
"It's a beautiful performance," Finney said about Thune, to which Luntz snapped back, "It's not a performance." The two went back and forth on that until Luntz said, "It's not a performance. I know him."
Finney wasn't buying it, replying, "Frank, you’re not talking."
The banter continued until Finney asserted she was answering a question. Luntz interrupted, saying, "Tell the truth."
The back-and-forth continued until Coates interrupted that she wanted to hear from both of them, and Finney exclaimed, "Don't you dare accuse me of lying!"
Luntz insisted he knows Thune, and "He was not in performance."
Coates cooled things down and Finney clarified, saying, "I felt like that was a performance. What I was going to say is right after that, the Republicans blocked a measure that would have — that was put forward by Democrats that would have actually said, let’s go ahead and put some money into SNAP."
"Republicans are upset because now, their voters are about to have consequences," she later added.
