Ontario’s police watchdog is investigating after a Toronto officer discharged a firearm during a carjacking investigation in Mississauga Wednesday evening.
Toronto police were investigating a carjacking case at a parking lot near Tomken Road and Dundas Street E. in Mississauga around 9 p.m. Wednesday, said the province’s Special Investigations Unit (SIU).
It said officers “conducted a takedown” after two suspects approached a vehicle of interest.
Police had “an interaction” with one man, which led to an officer discharging his weapon, said the SIU. That man fled the scene and has not yet been located.
Police do not know if the man was struck by gunfire. The second suspect was arrested, said the SIU.
