SAVANNAH, Ga. (WSAV) - Government-funded programs across the state are preparing to temporarily close their doors on November 1 due to the ongoing federal shutdown.

Nearly 600 families may no longer have access to their child’s Head Start program through Action Pact. The nonprofit organization is preparing to close 15 of its programs in 12 counties, according to a press release.

This means hundreds of children will not have the learning and care they need while their parents are at work. Through Head Start programs, children receive early learning time, daily meals and snacks, and health and mental health services.

Meanwhile, families are also facing additional hardship from paused SNAP payments and other safety nets.
