Ohio Republicans and Democrats have reached a deal on a new congressional map that would make Cincinnati and Toledo congressional districts more Republican, someone familiar with the redistricting process said.
The proposed map would help Republicans win seats currently held by Cincinnati Rep. Greg Landsman and Toledo Rep. Marcy Kaptur while making Akron Rep. Emilia Sykes’ district more Democratic.
The proposal would fend off Republicans’ plan to pass a 13-2 Republican favored district map in November, when the GOP doesn’t need Democratic votes.
Republicans, in turn, would avoid a ballot campaign to upend a congressional map.
