CHARLOTTE — When the Panthers took the practice field Wednesday, backup quarterback Andy Dalton wasn't able to participate because of a right thumb injury, so they made a move for cover on Thursday.
The team placed offensive lineman Brady Christensen on injured reserve, as expected, and used his spot on the 53-man roster to sign quarterback Mike White off the practice squad.
White came here last week, partly because of his familiarity with the Bills offense, having spent last year and this offseason in Buffalo. But he made a quick impression.
The 30-year-old White provides an experienced option behind Bryce Young if Dalton's unable to play. He's appeared in 15 games with seven starts in his career, all with the Jets, with a couple of wins in 2021 and 2022.
