Fall is not only the end of the growing season, but it is also the start of next year’s garden.
While many gardeners are intent on cleaning up the garden, I have taken a slightly different approach. “Leave the Leaves” is a program that focuses on protecting the many native critters like turtles, toads, mammals, and invertebrates that rely on leaf litter for food, shelter, and nesting materials. Since reading about it a few years ago, I have eliminated most of my fall clean-up chores.
