A Jan Suraaj worker, Dularchand Yadav, was shot dead in Mokama on Thursday during an election campaign, triggering tension days ahead of the Assembly polls in the state. Yadav, who had earlier contested from the Mokama Assembly seat, was campaigning for Prashant Kishor's Jan Suraaj candidate when the attack took place in Taratar village.

According to police, Yadav was first shot in the leg before being run over by a vehicle. Baadh ADPO Abhishek Singh said the police were "probing all angles" and that action would be taken on every complaint received.

JDU candidate Anant Singh, who was campaigning in the area at the time, alleged that the attack was part of a conspiracy planned by former RJD MP Surajbhan Singh, husband of RJD candidate Veena Devi.
