American Airlines has revealed that Edinburgh Airport (EDI) in Scotland will be its first international destination for its new fleet of Airbus A321XLR long-range narrowbody twinjets. The Fort Worth-based one world founding member plans to fly the type there on a seasonal basis from March of 2026, with John F Kennedy International Airport (JFK) in New York being the origin.
This development follows a successful summer of seasonal operations between Philadelphia International Airport (PHL) and Edinburgh this year, with the Boeing 787-8 Dreamliner being the aircraft of choice for American Airlines on this corridor. The carrier has configured its A321XLRs with a premium-heavy three-class layout, and they will initially be launched domestically.
