CLEVELAND, Ohio — The looming cutoff of food assistance for millions of Americans has left many Northeast Ohioans uncertain about food security in the coming weeks.
The government shut down Oct. 1 after Congress failed to pass a budget for the new fiscal year, with Republicans and Democrats at odds over spending levels. As a result, about 1.4 million Ohioans, including 190,000 Cuyahoga County residents , could lose their SNAP benefits starting Nov. 1, while the federal government shutdown continues. Congress must approve a new spending bill for SNAP funding to resume.
